We hunt a little ways south of Carrizo Springs.
The .243 isnt for sale. All of my guns have sentimental value so reguardless of whether or not it gets shot, its sitting in the gun cabinet looking pretty. Ill still bust a coyote with it every once in a while.
I usually shoot a .270 down there and it has worked well. I didnt have access to it this weekend when i went though. The next gun i buy will be a howitzer....im a shotgun guy so precision and accuracy are used very loosely. I just want to hit an area and call it done. I cant keep a tight pattern at

You can buy a regular 300 and hop up the powder and have the same damn gun for a good chunk of change cheaper. Atleast this was the case a couple years ago when I was interested. Shake a 300 case you can hear there is alot of room for more powder, but if you arent interested in reloading then the ultra would be for you.

I dont have the funding right now, so it looks like ill be finishing off the season with the .270. Im gonna have to start saving though. I saw the one in the PM....saaaawheat!!! I liked the fluted bull barrel, i think that might be the one to get but in a synthetic stock. A tear comes to my eye every time i bring my gun into the stand because, i look at it and there are tiny scratches and dings. I know it comes with the terratory but i just cant have something nice....im too clumsey and have shitty luck.

If you learn where to put the bullet, you dont need a bigger gun. A friend of mines dad is BIGGGG into target shooting. All 3 of his sons HAD to make ahead shot aver 100 yards with a pistol before they were allowed to hunt with a rifle. Now they are all spoiled and hate tracking, but usually only have to walk less than 10 yards.
Just learn to shoot Beau. I bet I can kill as many/more deer with a .17hmr than you can with your .243

You do realize I dont even deer hunt right. But I guarantee I can kill more with that .17 than you can with a .243.
But I also kill more pigs with a knife than you do with a rifle!!
If I ever start deer hunting again, Ill be getting a .270wsm, or a 7mmwsm

Beau, I completely understand the no funding part. But it will be worth it when you save the money up and get one.
white1, when you can kill a deer at 500 yards with that .17HMR, I'll start using one. I don't believe in carrying anything less than I MIGHT need for the particular situation. Therefore, it is magnums for me.
Oh, and I hit a deer in the shoulder last Saturday with my 270 WSM and never found it. Couldn't even find a single drop of blood.
