bought an SKS

yeah, it had a TON of grease on the parts when i broke it down....spent 3 hrs cleaning all of that out and oiling everything up....barrell was spotless. took it out today and chopped down a pine tree with it....lol it was pretty fun. it worked flawlessly, smooth action, little to no wear on the bolt assembly and barrel, looks like it was barely used.....the stock is in decent shape, i will save it because the numbers match but i want a tapco for it

I hate those plastic stocks. Just use it and don't abuse it. Don't oil the gas tube and rod, right? Remove the striker and clean the pin channel? Does your pin have a spring or is it a floater?
Cosmoline....I love it. Sounds like you have got a good one there. It hasn't been fired since wrapped up and imported.

i could not figure out how to get the firing pin out.....it does not have a spring though.....i dont think. i found a sks with a tapco today and liked the feel of it but dont like the idea of paying the same for a stock as i did the gun. the only thing i oiled was the slide, striker, pin (as best i could), and trigger assembly. i didnt oil anything inside the gas tube or the piece it pushes in to move the bolt.

I used to get 1000 rounds of .223 and 7.62x39 for about 140.00. Prices have gone through the roof.

Read the link I gave you.
Before using again, do this;
Look on side of the bolt and see pin that runs from side to side of bolt. The firing pin is notched so that when you remove that pin the firing pin is free to be removed. Use a brass punch to drive pin out, remove firing pin and clean/dry, do not oil.
Remove extractor by pushing in from bolt face and to the side but be careful you do not let it fly!
Clean gas block, tube and rod, do not oil. Remove gas rod extension and clean but do not oil.
Oil bolt rails and bolt sides only.
Done.

thats good stuff, i tried to remove that pin to get to the firing pin but it wouldnt budge.....the bolt and rails where the only thing i oiled, plus the trigger assembly. i wiped a light coat of oil down all exterior metal pieces (barrel, etc) just to prevent rust from forming. i just got done reading on that site and they have some VERY good info. if you ever head this way we need to go shoot. now if i can find more info on my italian model 91
