KB if you wait Ill have a fully built 65e to sell in about 5 months with all the bells and whistle for 1200. Just need to switch out the tailhousing for a 2wd which I got a guy in Houston that can do it in 30min. If you do buy it an drive to austin Ill install it for you

About the ol' 4L60, it is a great tranny as far as how it is geared. The 3:1 first gear is awsome. Unfortunately, it just can't take big power. My recommendation would be to save the $$ for a 4L80 with a 2.75:1 first and a full manual valve body. Or you can do what I am doing and swap in an NV4500 5 speed manual.
It just comes down to how serious you are. Personally I would rather lay down the $$$ for a solid tranny and forget about it, rather then polish a turd for less $$ and hope it doesn't break.
Personally, I have NEVER seen a 4L60 last, but that is just me. That doesn't mean that there aren't plenty out there that are takin' a likin' and still tickin'.

To most people on this fourm the 80e is overkill! Seriously, not too many people on here are breaking 600 rwhp and probably wont ever so i would just get a level 4 60 from FLT which can handle 450-500 rwhp and the 65e up to 550-600, you can push more than that with a billet output shaft but i say anything over 600rwhp should have an 80e. Did you know that there are only three gas trucks on the PT.net Dyno list that are hitting the 600+ RWHP!

ohhhhh....so the catch is that it's not freshly built
