How much for a decent TIG welder?
I was just wonder what kind of TIG welder yall are using, something for a home garage, not for thick metal. And if you don't mind posting how much was it. I am mainly looking for one to do some restoration with, like body panels (quarter panels, patch panels, floor pans, etc.) maybe some aluminum.

you can get a AC/ DC stick welder for like 500.00
heres the one i use,
THUNDERBOLT XL AC/DC 225 AND 300
then buy a tig rig, Which looks like this
http://www.weldingmart.com/Qstore/p002770.htm
it basically has your torch, hoses and regulator.
You will need to rent a bottle of shielding gas from a local welding supply store.
then get two of these lead connectors
http://www.weldingmart.com/Qstore/p000259.htm
Basically all you need to do is change the polarity of a AC/DC stick welder to use it for Tig so heres what you do.
Cut the leads about 8" coming from the machine. then install the two lead connectors (female) to the leads coming from the machine, now install the male connectors on the other end of the leads.
Connect the ground cable to the "work" lead connector
Then connect the "whip" or the work lead to the ground lead connector.
now you have switched the polarity of the machine.
Now all you have to do is hook up your regulator to the bottle hook the whip or stinger to the tig rig hose and hook up your ground clamp.
when and if you ever want to stick weld simply un-hook your leads and connect them as they were.
Your then good to go and just saved hundreds.
I can take pics if you want. I have welded stainess steel and it came out great.
The only difference between a tig welder and a AC/DC stick welder is the polarity
