Default New speeding/arrest law?

I was talking to my neighbor yesterday and he told me they passed a new law in Texas. The police now have a choice to ticket you or haul your *** to jail and impound your vehicle if your caught going 20 mph over the speed limit. Any truth to this? If so, I've got to totally change the way I drive.

Not that I've heard of...

But the website may not be up to date - I doubt it though.

cops dont want to take you to jail though. its more work on their part. most likely they will just ticket you and go on their way, unless you smart off to them(bad idea)

Speeding is the only thing in Texas you can't go to jail for. I was issued a citation in January for 20mph over and the officer never mentioned the possibility of an arrest. I was cited for 24mph over about 3 years ago and the trooper never mentioned it either.

I got pulled over one time over here in La. for speeding 25 mph over. The cop told me, "I should load you on my back seat and take you to jail, give a reason why I shouldn't" Luckily I told him the correct reason

actually, back in 02 I was paced doing 102 in a 65 coming back from Austin to Houston..
The trooper asked if there was an emergency, and I said no, was just cruising..
he wrote me a ticket, and I went about my way..
The Judge on the other hand was beside himself when I spoke to him, because the Trooper did not arrest me there on the spot..
he mentioned that he would have a talk with that trooper and that any one going 20MPH over the speed limit in HIS county would/and should be put in jail.
I counted my blessings payed my ticket, and went about my way..
also talking to the HPD officer that lives accross the street for me..
it's usually up to the officer if he wants to haul you in or not..
depending on the severity of what you where doing... I.E. racing, driving irradically.
