Few questions...? Did you remember to pour oil over the rockers before start-up? Thats the easiest way to get a lifter tap. Also maybe overtightening the rockers? I believe 22lbs of tq? I don't know what overtightening the rockers would sound like but I'm sure it'd make some kinda noise...

i did pour some oil over both sets of rocker arms. i torqued them down to 22ftlbs as per the book. i pulled the side in question to ensure the lifters were doing their thing and it appears as they are

BTW, what you have is called a 'hand grenade' engine...it could go at anytime

i just did some tuning. got some fuel added and the tick seems to have gone away for the most part. i'm about to go drive to see if it does it when it warms up. i'll post back in a few mins.
btw, yes it is a hand grenade engine. lol. if it blows at the track this weekend i want some help getting it loaded up and carted off to a tall cliff.

well i drove the truck to get some gas. all the way there it sounded fine. on the way back the ticking came back. i monitored my 02's and even though i didn't go full throttle when i would gas on it they would jump up to 920mv's. i can't remember if that is lean or rich. also, when i did get back to my house i had my neighbor come listen to it. he thinks it's a lifter not primeing up. the tick went away as the truck sat and idled. i'm baffled. when it cools off i'm gonna pull the valve cover and see if oil is coming out of all the pushrods. double check the tq on the rocker arms as well
