This is actually some what true. GM started a program called RIM for us dealers, and for those of the dealers on it they could return anything with out penalty those of them that weren't couldn't. Now GM charges a 35% restocking fee to dealers reguardless.

Dealer couldnt give me a rear seal without a vin number.

Fought with me about my rear seal leaking at 18k.
Service manager: "maybe its your oil plug or oil filter being loose"
Me: i really doubt that.
Service manager: well you havent brought your truck in for an oil change since you bought it. So i assume you do the oil changes, and its a common mistake garage mechanics make because they dont know.
Me: im a diesel mechanic and i work on 8million dollar cranes. Im pretty sure i can change my own oil. Besides, im not a moron, i know where a rear seal is. The oil is dripping out of my bellhousing on the transmission not down the side of my filter nor by my oil plug.
Service manager: oh. Bring it in an we'll look at it.

20min later i get a call that its the rear seal.

Bring truck back at 21k for oil leak again. Its either the pos rear seal or the oil pan. Bam it was the oil pan.
gm tech: it was hard to get the truck to move up the ramps
Me:Uh i really dont know. Its been pretty sluggish lately.
(real reason is bc of the 3200 stall it use to have

Gm wanted 13.50 a bolt for the transmission grade 8 2.00

A buddy of mine brought his truck to the dealership and they told him install a LS1 cam bc its the only cam that will fit his truck and be a tame cam. (2011-2012 5.3) i love stupid techs, they make me smile

well I got a decent one for ya. WAAAAAAY back when i got my license and my green 98 truck, my toolbox consisted of an ice pick i found and some cool sparkly rocks(meaning i was a full blown noob). I call a decent repair shop and ask the cost for a serpentine belt to be done. Lady hands the phone to one of the master techs and THE conversation that drove me to learn auto mechanics ensued.

Me: Yes, I wanted to know your price to do a belt on my 98 silverado w/ 5.7

ASE tech: uh we charge 50 for the job normally but chevy never made a silverado in 98. 97 was the last year of the old style then 99 started the new body style with a 5.3

Me: uh. you sure thats correct?

ASE tech: Yeah. I am the master tech and even still my sheet here is telling me that year truck does not exist.

Me: Okay, well then i guess I must be riding on a magic carpet with the wrong vin number and the manual must also be fake. Are you fully sure about the fact that my truck does not exist?

ASE tech: yes sir, I know gm really well and have been doing this for many years and can tell you that they didnt make the truck for a year just like they didnt make the corvette for a year way back when.

Me: Okay, so why does my build date on my door say...(for the life of me, cant remember it now haha)?

ASE tech: well... fake sticker. I'll say it again that truck doesnt exist.

Me: Oh. ok. Guess I really am driving a magic carpet, because I am driving it. Well thank you anyway I guess i will figure it out.

Guess I am happy i had that experience, because after that I decided it was time to learn automotive mechanics. and now am dual majoring for auto and business. you really can't fix stupid...
