so that website that says how to do it is wrong?

For Factory Keyless Entry Systems:

Most OEM factory keyless entry systems have remotes that lock / unlock the doors and pop the trunk, but they do not have an additional auxiliary output to connect directly to the DEI 561T. However, you can still add the DEI 561T Valet Remote Car Starter Module to your factory system. Here's one way you can do this:

The DEI 561T Valet Remote Car Starter Module's negative (-) activation input can be programmed to accept either 1, 2 or 3 negative (-) pulses. Factory keyless entry systems generally send a negative (-) output signal to their factory lock / unlock relays. You can connect your factory keyless entry's negative (-) "lock" output to the DEI 561T's negative (-) activation input and program the DEI 561T to "activate" on 2 (or 3) negative (-) pulses.

Pressing the lock button on your factory keyless remote will lock your doors as usual. "Double pressing" your factory keyless remote lock button will lock your doors (or keep them locked) on the 1st press, and will start your vehicle on the 2nd press.

Your major consideration is the resulting operating range that you will have for remote starting your vehicle. Most factory keyless entry systems, especially on older vehicles, do not have much range as there is not a need to lock or unlock your doors from a great distance. The resulting remote start operating range will be the same distance as you now have with your factory keyless entry system when you lock your doors.

If this distance is satisfactory for your remote starting needs, then adding a DEI Valet 561T to your factory keyless entry system will provide you the luxury of also being able to remote start your vehicle at minimal expense.

If this distance does not meet your needs, then you should use one of the other DEI Valet Remote Car Starter Systems that have their own remotes and provide a greater operating range. You can connect your factory power door locks to these DEI Valet Systems so that you will have both Remote Starting and Keyless Entry with the DEI remotes. Your factory keyless entry system will not be affected; you just won't need to use it. Take the batteries out of your factory remotes and store them.

Most new and recent model vehicles have factory anti-theft systems to prevent a vehicle being started without the specific owner's key in the ignition. DEI Remote starters can be installed in all of these vehicles using the appropriate DEI Bypass Module to enable the vehicle to start and run during the remote starting operation without a key in the ignition. DEI Bypass Modules do not compromise your vehicle's anti-theft protection.

All DEI Remote Car Starters have the same high quality operation and performance. They vary only in additional features and operating range. For automatic transmission, fuel injection vehicles only. Learn more about How Remote Car Starters Work or read about the installation overview for the DEI 561T, DEI 561R, DEI 562T, DEI 563T or the DEI 554R. Autopreservers also supplies everything you need to install these Remote Car Starters including the Bypass Modules to enable the vehicle to start and run during the remote starting operation without a key in the ignition even if you already have an aftermarket security system.
