Default aftermarket radio with intergraded steering wheel control harness

I have a 2005 serria and just installed a Alpine IVA-W200 radio. I paid the extra money for the intergraded steering wheel harness to have the steering wheel controls hooked up to it. The problem is that the prog button doesn't work anymore, so I cant switch thru my radio's preset stations. I was told by the installer that thats the way it works and he can't do anything about it. Has anyone else done this and have their prog button work?

. I would show after I told that incompitant installer to fix my . Honestly tell the installer you will be contacting the Better Business Bureau if he doesn't find a way to fix your problem.

Other than that, how do you like the unit? I have been thinking about that same unit for my ride. Any pics of the install?

So far I am happy with it. I've only had it in for a couple of days. I think it is probaly the best touch screen I've used. A lot of nice features, I like the I pod function. I also had the installer hook the new XM radio box up to my existing antena insteed of adding the new one in the kit. For negatives I would just have to say how the DVD player has to be turned up louder than the radio to have the same volume out put. I also don't like how you have to do the brake pedal/e-brake sequence to play the DVD and open a couple of the menus. How ever I found a little black box that will elimenate that problem on ebay for 30.00 shipped. The part is PAC TR7.

It only works with the parking brake because the unit is ground to the same location. Tell your installer to mount the ground at any other location other than the parking brake and it will work whenever you want to use it. However, it is illegal to have it wired that way. In that case, if you're pretty good with a wrench or a screwdriver for that matter you can change it. Just re-route the ground wire from the unit to a common ground or somewhere on the chassis.

But I have to set the e brake twice in order for it to come on. The box I am waiting for from e bay says it has to be programed by pulseing one of the wires twice as well from what I understand. If your right though then I wasted 30.00 . I'll try to post up some pics for you guys. I have never posted pics before so I'll have to figure it out.

Well after enough complaining and telling the installer that everyone says that the prog button on the steering wheel controls should work. He looked into it and he had to program the radio some how to control or use the function. Thanks guys!
