bass blockers, as they are called, is a high-pass filter that will only allow frequencies higher than xxHZ to pass, and continue on to your speakers. you can find them at pretty much any mobile audio shop. they used to be the big thing, but with alot of receivers now having subwoofer outs and built-in x-overs you don't hear too much about them anymore. there is also a low-pass filter that can be used to block higher frequencies for those that want to use a subwoofer but do not have a sub out. hope this helps.

Too expand on this there are different levels of filttration for x-overs.
The simple ones that most people refer to as bass blockers only filter out bass at 6 decibels per octave. This can be viewed a very slight slope compared to the more sophisticated 12db/octave, 18db/oct and 24db/oct networks you find in most amplifiers or head units. It's not that you always want the steepest slope but generally speaking 6db really isn't used much anymore like stated above. In the event that your deck doesn't have a x-over built in and you're not using an amp then some 6db "caps" will definately help out though.
