Battery Question
Need some electronic help guys.....
So i've got an optima yellow top now...but i think its going bad somehow. I got it tested and its not recharging right and only has like 450-500 cranking amps. So, it takes a few extra turns and seconds to crank...which pisses me off. Ive contacted Optima and its out of warranty and said they might be able to get it pro-rated for a new one.
But Ive heard that Stinger Audio batterys are alot better. Any input?
Oh..and if it matters....I've also got 3 Memphis HO 10's w/ a 1000w amp and a set of Highs with a 500w amp

I don't know anything about the Stinger batteries....but what are you running in the way of a charging system? The Yellow Top is a deep cycle battery and is great for running your stereo for a long time with the engine off, but to pound a high powered system with the truck running you really need a HO alternator. Are the wattages you listed peak or RMS? If they are RMS I would recommend at least 150 amp alternator. I am running 1500 watt, 550 watt, and 350 watt RMS amps and have a 200 amp alternator with a yellow top and haven't had any problems for over 2 years.

stinger dry cell is way superior to optima's. optima's are outdated and old school. i would go with the odyssey or northstar drycells. same quality, less $. all stinger does is have their name put on "theirs", made by someone else.
oh yeah, kinetic also.

95stroked1500, Optima is not a bad battery and they are not outdated... they just may not be the 'best' thing out there.

so with a fresh battery and a HO Alt.....this problem will vanish?
In all honesty....i'm not worried about pounding my system here lately.....still cant get enough of that 6.0 whine. I just wanna be able to start up the truck with no problem.

didn't say optima's were bad. they're still good, and so are a lot of the good ol' "lead/acid" batteries. but optima's are outdated and there is better out there. for what you can get an optima for, you can get a northstar drycell that will do the same or more, can discharge and charge faster, and is like an optima red, blue, and yellow all in one battery.
i'm sure you'd be happy with an optima. drycells have been out for a while. and it'll take probably another 5 years before everyone catches on. how many avid competitors do you see running optima anymore? in an application where people are the most demanding on batteries, you see the drycells.
