I would do a tw5 from Jl Audio since you didn't give us a price range, the type of music you listen to, and if you want 1 or 2 subs.

listen to alt. country (ragweed, randy rogers, **** like that) rock, some rap when the ole lady is in the truck... probably just one 10 or 12 would do it for me.

Once again you can get a sub at walmart for $15 or you can spend $1000 on a single subwoofer. A 10 or 12" doesn't tell us ****. I'm trying to be patient, but you aren't helping me help you.

I won't hold it against you since I didn't ask, but do you need a new head unit?

OK well $600 should be good to get you set up. I'm not sure who makes a good single subwoofer box for the NNBS trucks though, but you could easily make one yourself. The diamond audio d6 line is a pretty good sub to go with. Jl W6v3 is also a good choice but usually pretty expensive. Any of Resonant Engineering's higher end lines are good.

Just make sure you don't cheap on an amp. Kicker, Diamond, JL, are some of the names that come to mind

i just found a nice downfiring box that fits under the rear seats for dual subs... what is the major determining factor when choosing between 10" or 12"?

12" will hit a little lower(assuming sealed box) and be a little louder. If you can fit a 12 go with that, you can always turn it down if it is a little loud. I have heard good things about the RE SE and SX's so you may look into something like that.
