Default downfiring subs?

How do they sound? I was looking at the Subthump boxes and dont see any way for the sound to escape.

I have two 12's in my truck and they are downfiring. Sounds really good honestly. The air moves out the back of the box if you ahve a box like i do...Probox. it rest on the floor and air is pushed out the back side from aopening across the entire back of it.

ive heard that they also push the floor to make the floor around the sub act as a cone itself (to a much lesser degree). This is coming from one of my electrical engineering professors... i cant say if its true or not but i do know they sound great

"bass is non directional, it doesnt matter which way the subs point they will sound the same. this is unless they are completely sealed off by your floorboard, but this wont happen b/c of carpet. the best way to get better sound out of a sub is to get a better/more appropriate box."

thats the reply i got from one of the nations top installers when i was shopping for a system.

Custom Box built for your truck will always sound the best.

I had 2-10s downfiring in my Xcab and I loved it --- sounded good

I have 2 JL 12" W6V1 in JL Advantage composite boxes.

Here is a pic of my bro's custom box in his VHO. 2 JL 12" W3V2

I actually think my premade composite box sounds better because the 3/4 mdf takes up a lot of usable sub space and the speakers are very close to the floor. The back of the magnet is about 1/4 from the wood on the inside of the box. All the V2 subs with the VRC have the cone which sticks out more than the older V1's that I have. Also, the speaker face is much closer to the floor on mine.

Be sure to check the mounting depth and calculate the thickness of the wood into it.
