ext cab underseat sub box??
Hey guys Im building an upfire enclosure to fit two 12" subs under the rear seat but my question is what do u guys do to make sure the subs don't get "crushed" by passengers sitting back there other than speaker grills cause their kinda flimsy. I don't know how to post pics but as soon as I figure it out ill post progress pics.

Yeah I was planning on making speaker rings that sit higher than the woofer but when I pushed down on cushion with my hand it went down pretty good so I could imagine with people sitting back there that it would take the form of the opening and press down on woofer. As far as downfire goes I figure I can get a bit more air space upfire ( I'm probably wrong but hey). Thanx for the replies guys anymore would b appreciated

If theres any air difference its not much. And what u gain there u lose by firing directly into a cushion. Go to your couch and put your face against the seat cushion and yell. It muffles it. Downfire sounds better because instead of the sound getting absorbed some it gets bounced off the hard floor and carpet. The downfiring enclosures have runners on the sides to keep the face of it off the floor and therefore it keeps the subs off the floor. As long as the excursion on the subs arent more than the width of the runners or feet of the sub box itself then no matter who sits on top of it it wont affect the performance of your subs.
