Which model do you have? You may be able to help me with some questions I have.

I have the KD-AVX2

I also have the alpine CDA-9885 in my stang, which should be the older model to the alpine your looking at.

Any questions, just let me know and I'll see what I can answer for ya

Sweet, I think the AVX2 is basicly the same as the one I am considering but with less features and different buttons.

-Do you have sattelite radio (sirrus or xm?) and if so, how does the unit display the info on the screen?
-is the 7-band iEQ the only method for sound shaping or are there seperate basic Bass and Treble settings?
-Does the unit have a clock and is it displayed with each source?
-How difficult is the MP3 file menu to navigate?

For the display questions, a picture is worth a 1000 words.

Got your pm, I'll get you some pics after my battery charges.

-Don't have sattelite, so I don't know about that
-You can adjust the bass and treble seperate
-Clock is displayed with cd/mp3 and with stereo, Not with dvd and I haven't got an ipod cable, but I assume it displays just as the cd and stereo does since the screen doesn't change much
-Just have started messing with mp3 disc, so I'm not sure on that one. I know, I'm a little behind times, but the dually and stang are the only ones that have mp3 capability and I don't drive them as much

I haven't got the ipod interface for it since my ipod was stolen and I haven't replaced it yet, so I haven't been able to see how it interfaces with each other and how everything is controlled. The screen is easily visible in both day and night conditions. It sits fairly flush with the dash so it doesn't look like its jumping out at you. Even though there isn't a rotary volume **** like you were looking for, it is easily controlled and the "quite" button, for lack of things to call it, is right in the corner and large enough to not miss.

That is great news about the clock. I was a little aggrivated with the clock on the 9886 as it only displayed the clock/date or the source info but not both. I like for the clock to be visiable all the time as the Alpine in the truck does(and every headunit I have ever had previously).
I dont have an Ipod so I probablly wont be using that feature. I will, however, use the built-in USB. A 2Gb thumb drive should hold a few songs. I won't use the Bluetooth feature right away either as I dont have a BlueTooth phone. Motorola has some new iden phones out now that have BT that work on our system so hopefully I can get one in the near future.

I'm sure 2gb will have just a few songs on it. Anything else you were interested in?

Just to let you all know, I decided on the KD-AVX33. Got it installed saturday and so far I really like it. I currently have it hooked up to my cheapo Profile amp but sounds much better than my Alpine CDA-D852 I borrowed from the truck for a while. I still need to install my XM controller and my two new Hifonics amps I got.

I have not tried a loaded up USB drive yet but about 20 songs didn't take any more time to read than a CD. I will try loading up my 2GB drive soon and see how it does.
