Help me wire my amp/sub 1 ohm/2 ohm ?'s
I'm pretty much a re-tard when it comes to stereo wiring. So I need a couple questions answered real quick.
I got a new Kicker 12" L7 specs are:
Sensitivity: 89 dB
RMS Power Range : 750 Watts
Peak Power Handling: 1500 Watts
Impedance: 2 Ohm
Low Frequency response: 20 Hz
High Frequency Response: 100 Hz
Diameter: 12 Inch
Also got a new amp. Spec sheet below:
My question is: Can I run this amp at 1 ohm to get the full 700W rms it claims to make? Or will this 2 ohm sub get ruined?
I've head under powering a sub can be as bad as over powering. Since the L7 sub is designed to run 750W rms I figured I should max out this amp.
What do you guys think? Is this just not enough amp to run this L7 at its potential?

Under powering a sub is fine as long as your tuning is correct and your amp isnt clipping. Which can fry your amp and in turn burn up the coils on your sub.
Your sub picks your final impedence so that is probably a dual 4 in that box that is wired parallel to drop to a 2 ohm load.
all solobarics are dual voice coil and you cant wire 1 dual 2 ohm sub to a 2 ohm final load.
Like others have said just get another amp that runs 750 at 2 ohms rms.

If you noticed on that birth sheet that amp was tested at 14.4 volts and unless you have upgraded your electrical you will be dropping below 14.4 volts so you will not be getting the full 455 that that amp is showing.

I have a 5 Farad cap as well, will that help with the voltage issue?
I hooked up a buddies amp in the interem. Its a 533X1 @ 4ohms I believe. It seems to be pretty good at pushing the sub but I didnt get any of that new sub "smell" that I usually get when I beat on a new sub. I will keep looking for a more powerful amp. I guess at 800X1 @ 2ohm should do the job.

yeah the cap will help out a bit. I would still recommend having the "big 3" done that will help quite a bit. if you plan to add an amp for the mids and highs I would you upgrade the cap to a second battery or even a h/o alt.
Whats your buddies amp pushing at 2 ohms? because the subs final load is 2 ohms. if it pushes that much at 4 ohms it might push close to what you need at 2 ohms depending on what amp it is.
