Help with my Silverado sound system! Not happy with it. Advice needed
Hey guys, I’ve had this system for the past three months and I’m not very fond of it..
Especially the Kicker Sub. It doesn’t hit hard at all and with some low bass songs it sounds like I may be using a little boom box. I was wondering if the system that I have set up should be sounding great or if what I’m getting is expected from this kicker sub.
In my old truck I had an Alpine type S 12” amped, not sure if my expectations are too high.
Also with my amped Alpine Type R speakers I’m not getting any bass what so ever. Was wondering if that’s normal or if the guy I had set my system up tuned the speaker amp wrong.
I have a Chevy Silverado 2008 Crew Cab.
The sub is under the passenger seat on the driver side.
I know it maybe hard to understand what I’m trying to explain with the quality of the sub, sorry! I just hoped for the money I spent I’d be getting at least as good bass as I didn’t from the type s.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
Also if you think what I’m getting out of the kicker is expected any suggestions on a better shallow sub would be great!
But I’m not looking to spend more then $450 on a sub & box, hopefully it could use the same amp I have now.
I’ve heard Sun Down and polk have some shallow subs but not sure which models and what box to use or custom needed .

Any low frequencies (bass) that are reproduced by your speakers are going to be heard depending on the enclosure. The shallow sub in a small tight space is not going to perform like a sub in an appropriate size enclosure. I would look at building a custom box for your sub maybe behind the seat or somewhere where you can squeeze some more room out of it. I would research and find a sub that performs well in a small enclosure. Your sub may be fine on this. I am not familiar with the new thin subs, but I have heard good things about the JL audio shallow sub. I personally built a behind the rear seat box and put an L7 kicker 12" in it and it sounded awesome. As far as your door speakers it's really the same principal. You may consider dynomat or something similar to raise your sound level.

NNBS trucks suck for getting enough air space under the seat for a sub to really beat. I built box after box after multiple amp and sub combos in mine until I finally gave up and just bed cut it to get the bass I so craved. I worked for a local car audio shop here in cs during college so been around the block before on building sub boxes and I just could not get the right combination together in this new truck.
