Default HID Relay? DRL?

Hey, im installing ddm 6000 35w hid low beam only in my 2004 silverado, Was wondering if a relay is needed to avoid doing any damage to the stock harness. Also is it recomneded to disable the day time running lights. Have read that the drl will mess up low beam hids some how.
Thanks

I have hid's in all my lights and dont run a relay. I dont see how the drls will affect the low beams.

You don't need a relay. The HIDs actually use less juice than the halogen lights. The problem with DRLs and HIDs is that if you turn your truck on at night, or in a dark garage, your HIDs will come on as soon as you turn the key. Then they're getting low power, not being charged by the alternator, and that's what kills your ballasts. This epic thread has a link to GMFullsize somewhere in it where it tell you how to disable the DRL function.

One method uses an LED in the dash sensor, the other uses a resistor clamped somewhere into the wiring harness. I'm lazy, so I just make sure my parking brake is set before I start my truck, and release it once the truck's idling.

I also have auto headlights and had issues with flickering, and some misfires. Added a relay and it fixed ALL my issues...gives the ballest power from the battery to extend life of them.

+1 for relay, IMHO

Thanks for the input guys, i ordered a relay just to be safe but i was messing with them today and am concerned about how when starting the truck the lights start up when i go past accesories when turing the ignition then shut off while the truck turns over then the lights will start again. I know its not good to flash hids like that. i tried putting on the parking break before starting but they still popped on real fast before turning over. Blueflamed03, did the relay elminate this problem?

Thanks

Edit: Wyttrash96, i was driving my other car tonight and see what u mean about having the parking break on before i start to keep the lights off. It works in my other car i just have to figure out why its not with the truck but thats what ill do instead of trying to disable the drl. Thanks man

no, but the ballast still has more reliable power from battery, your good man.
