not a fan of the W0's, I wouldn't get anything lower than a W3 from JL.

What do you mean best in their line? W6 and W7 are definitely better.

w6 w7 are wayyy bigger speakers, can handle more rms and are louder, that doesnt make them better.... for average applications, specially for tight airspace, w3's are the best all round sub in their lineup

air space, is that point still being argued?

j/k

He already stated air space is not a problem since he has an entire extended cab at his disposal. I agree JL W3's are a great sub and they hit clean, but a W6 or W7 is going to hit way harder and sound just as crisp and clean. And you will only need one.

I have had mulitple sets of JL W3's and I have blown multiple sets of them because I worked them too hard. And hard rock is hard on subs at high volume so the bigger JL's (6&7's) will put up with the abuse much better....

If you listen to rock then IMO sealed boxes sound cleaner...
Ported boxes are great if you can tune them, however its a PITA to do it, they also hit louder.

Your amp will be a major factor as well... you need a good amp that will last. IMO Kicker, alpine, JL are some good name brand stuff. There is a ton of stuff that no one knows about such as TREO etc. that is really good as well.
You need an amp that is true wattage... for example, my kicker 750x1 amp actually puts out like 8xx something at 14.4 volts. Where as a walmart sony 1200watt amp only puts out about 600watts max.

As for subs... if your trying to stay on the cheap side of $150 The JL W0's are great... Kicker comps are decent. In all honesty... i had a Directed Audio 10in sub, 1200watt max 600rms. Bought it brand new for $100 from a local audio shop and that sucker pounded! Sounded as good as my buddys w3v3 10in.

I used to have 2 JL W0's in my single cab behind the seats... they only need like 150watt rms or something and i could never use my mirrors because they pounded that good!

When its all said an done its up to you... your the owner and driver of the truck not us.
Goodluck man

hey buddy. but of those 2 setups, which one would be better off for hard rock?

also, can you get me a discount lol jk. are kickers refurb subs a good choice?

as far as a amp, i had a kicker 1000.1 and damn i loved it, it blew the L712 i had, and out lasted a few more setups, id still have it if i wouldnt have flooded my truck

solo-baric would be better for hard rock. the idea that ported is more for rap and sealed is for rock and "accuracy" is for insane **** retentive audiophiles. I say solo-baric simply because it can be put in a small sealed box and perform awesome and then turned around and ran in a large ported enclosure and perform awesome. they're awesome subs
