Default NNBS RCSB Stereo/Speaker issues

I've been dealing with a speaker sounding weird for a while now in my 07 RCSB. I think it was the rear one, just kinda acting staticy, almost like its blown, but its not, and it only does it sometimes.

Fast forward, this week, I've noticed the passenger side of my speakers not all working. I've pretty much only got tweeters working on the passenger side, although after driving almost all the way home from work, the other speakers will start working.

I haven't pulled the door panels yet, plan on doing that this weekend, but I'm not sure if this sounds like a speaker problem, or if its actually the stereo head unit--maybe having a channel going out or a loose connection from the stereo. I'm not very knowledgable about electronics and stereos so any advice would be helpfull. Also last few days when all the speakers are working properly(sound) the passenger side speakers seem to be crackling quite a bit.

Also anyone know what size speakers are stock in the back of the RCSB's????

I believe 4x6.

Check the connection on the back of the head unit, if they are fine it's probably a wiring issue.

Tried looking at it this weekend, but couldn't figure out how to get the entire dash face off the truck. Had like 1 clip stuck right by the steering column that wouldn't budge. I was too worried about breaking it to force it. Pulling the dace bezel is a lot different than the 99-07 classic body style.

After that was too frustrated to remove the door panel to look at the speakers.

i have the same issue with speakers not playing. It seems that on differenet XM channels, different speakers will play, most of the time its my right rear that doesn't play, but the fronts do. If I change to a different channel, and it only seems to be one other, sometimes its my front left, but the tweeter still works. My truck didn't come factory with XM but I added the oem XM system and antenna and wiring. I don't worry about it since one day I plan on updating everything, its just kinda annoying when I notice it.

if you fade out the rears all the way you wont even miss them.. i purposely do not use the rear speakers and like it that way. as far as pulling the dash apart. start with the knee panel under the column. a few screws, one holding the e brake release. pull straight towards you to the back.. 2 or 3 clips at the top. next the lower piece under the stereo. a few screws under the one you just took off and more clips. pull back towards you. then you will see what all is involved for the stereo surround. its not to hard. the lower pieces are reinforced so you shouldn't hurt them. be careful with the surround piece though because if bent to far it will change color.

Schino,

Thanks for the heads up. I was hoping to not have to remove the lower parts but I guess so. Like I said, had the stereo surround all but removed with 1 clip left but couldn't get it. Will have to do that though.

As for fading out the rear, Its my 6-3/4" door speaker thats not working. The 4x6 rear is working, just had it faded out so I couldn't hear it before. And then the tweeter in the pillar is working. But the main speaker not working is driving me insane. LOL. I pulled the door panel yesterday evening, but didn't see anything out of place, so I'm thinking its got to be at the stereo. And I don't want to upgrade everything cause I know I'm on borrowed time with this truck. The diesel bug has hit me hard. LOL.

OK, got the dash removed this evening, pulled the headunit. Everything seemed to be in place, no loose connections or anything. Pulled the door panel again and the speaker in question. I had my voltage test light and tested the speaker connection itself and it showed its hot.

What is the possibility that the speaker is just dead? I've never really heard of that happening before, but I'm NO audio expert by any means. I guess my next step would be to remove both door panels and speakers and see if the drivers side speaker would work on the passenger side???

Preciate it Schino. I plan on trying to do that this evening if the weather holds up. Will let ya know about the speakers. I'm hoping thats all it is, although I have my doubts.
