Ported all the way. Put the port facing away from the front seats you will not hear it breath. My ported box sounds cleaner and smoother than any sealed box I have had.

If you had an L7 in a sealed box and it didn't sound good, then you didn't do it right.

Your 100% right they are designed for ported boxes

Negative ghostrider. They were designed for sealed inclosures.

I bought an L7 from a shop with the sub already mounted in a ported box. The box was designed by Kicker to get the most sound out of the L7. With the amp I have on it, it makes bass somewhere between ridiculous and absurd. It actually hurts to turn it up. I would go with a ported if you have the room.

I have two 12 inch L5 subs in separate sealed boxes with a jbl 1200 watt amp driving them. It hurts to sit in the truck at full volume.

Well, this thread is kinda old but I would put up another vote for a ported enclosure. It would have to be about 25% bigger than a sealed enclosure to get the full advantage of having it but would be worth it IMO.
