Stereo guys, will just a power/switched 12v and
A ground wire power on a head unit? Reason I ask is. I picked up a new to me Kenwood DVD/stereo ect. I want to just see if it powers on before I go through the task of tearing my old one out and all. So if i hook a 12v up to the yellow wire(12v all the time) the red wire(12v switched), a ground will the unit power on, it should?? Thanks

Yah I have tested it a few times tonite, it does not power on.. I still have a few wires in the harness to the radio that does not get used.. I am thinking maybe it needs another source for the 12v but can not find any info on the web on this particular unit that mentions more then 2 12v sources..

Believe it or not, a lot of the newer head units are screwy as hell and require the entire harness to be wired up in order to power on. In theory, it makes no sense. I've even dealt with vehicles that I've ran amps to the front stage, and before I could test the front stage, I'd have to have the door panels on with all of the accessories hooked up in the doors, just to be able to test the speakers. Also, make sure you have the antenna hooked up. What model unit do you have? I'll try to find some schematics for you.
