stereo systerm!!!

Re: stereo systerm!!!
What kind of box would you recommend for a regular cab? I built one out of MDF with 2 RF 10's w/ 300w amp firing into the back of the passenger seat. The box fits into the recessed part on the jack stowage (if you have a RC you know what I mean) I do not like it, you can barely feel the bass. I was wanting to build a new box and use a single 10 or maybe a 12. How big of a box should I make and should I try to aim it toward the back wall instead of into the seat?

I live on the NW side of town. In Jersey Village if you know where that is. I bought all my stereo stuff new off ebay, and probably have in the neighbor hood of about $600 into it. Which I think is pretty good considering the amp alone is regularly $499 at Car Toys and Circuit City.

I'm wondering if those square speakers make the bass sound different in your truck Greg. I know the JL 12s I had in the Ranger sounded very crisp and clean. Maybe because the cab was smaller than this one?
I didn't know you had an amp behind the seat too haha.

The round Solobarics sounded the same. Didn't your old system fire relatively close into the seats? The bass needs a baffle of some sort when your trying to fill the volume of the cab. When I had the system in my Camaro, firing up at the hatch coming off the glass, it sounded great. Once you opened the hatch, and put your head over the box, it sounded like ****.

Re: stereo systerm!!!
00silver toy. I built my box like this, I consider it like biulding a wedge for a regular cab and then take the angled side and put it on the floor.
15"tall (this is the portion that will be against the bottom of the seat.) 5.5"deep( portion to the rear of truck)9" deep (portion to the front of truck) and 20"wide ( measurement from center hump to seat edge.) I built two seperate boxes for under each side of the seat and left the center hump for my ps2. These dimensions yield almost 1 cubic foot per side, I use MTX 8000 12's and it has lots of bass

Cashdudehomie, do not fire the woofer into the cab! No amount of dynomat will be able to save your ears from the noise!I don't have a regular cab but I'll try to help you, it sounds like you might not have enough airspace. Did you only use half of the truck width? If so try using the same box but only with one sub. Remember your amount of bass is always linked to the size of your box so try to stretch it out, even if it takes some handi-work the results will be worth the extra time to built the perfect box!

ONly reason I went with down-firing is because it looks cleaner and keeps feet from going through a sub.

True audiophiles you will probably cringe, but...
I took the cheap route on my subs. I just installed 2 MTX Road Thunder MTX Site truck boxes under my rear seat. Each box has a 10" sub and a tweeter/midrange of some sort and handles 125/RMS and 300/PEAK. I am using an Alpine 300 watt amp to push just the truck boxes. I am very pleased with the sound and they match my gray carpet fairly well.
Do they look really hidden?? Not if you look under the seat, but they don't really grab your attention. Will they cause the rear view mirror to vibrate on command?? YES. The reasons I went for these particular speakers is really simple: $89.00 for the pair at Circuit City. I was going to buy MTX component subs and custom build a box and it was going to cost more. I figure I can still custom build a box when I have time (and use the subs from the truck boxes), meanwhile I can enjoy the subs today!

Re: stereo systerm!!!
Okay, anyone have any experience with the JL Audio Vantage custom boxes for our X-cabs, or their Stealthbox 12" box? Where is a good place to see some prices on this stuff online?
MTX used to be mid-level back when I was into this stuff, how do they compare with JL Audio now?
I'd like at least the pair of 12s that the JL Vantage boxes can hold, not sure if a pair of 10s is enough.
