seems to me it would take more effort to make a 4.8/5.3 look like a 6.0 than to just swap in a 6l. Something doesn't sound right to me.

What effort? They charged him 1500 for the engine alone, they could get a 5.3 for 300 bucks, I think for 1200 bucks, grinding the casting numbers off would be worth it for them.... They all look the same physically.

What do you mean more work? 5 minutes with a grinder and a welder and you just saved $800 on a motor you didn't have to buy.

$800 or $2000 to lose your legal business? To face criminal charges? He said he had a receipt. Any mechanic can testify to a fraud. I don't know about you but I wouldn't face prison for less than 50k.

Obviously they didn't think this guy knew anything about engines and wouldn't know the difference. Theres alot of people who would risk alot just to make a quick buck

The fact that they grinded and welded on the block is enough to be more than suspicious. They obviously didn't know enough about the blocks to know about the other number matching up. Not like the old Gen 1 engines where 1 casting could have been 3-4 engines.

If they absolutely have to they can pop a head off and measure the Bore. The shop can't argue castings if it's not a 4" bore.
