should be able to fit them pretty easily, I got my torsion bars cranked and 3 inch body lift and I clear 35's with no rub so they should fit

with 33s you will have to raise the torisons all the way. i have 305 50 r20 on mine and i only have a few turns left on the torisons and it rubs a little on the front when i turn. mine are like 32.2in tall.

I am on stock wheels right now but I am looking at some 17" a guy at work has and I want the taller 285 or 33 tires on the truck cause with the T bars cranked there is a big gap in the fenders front and back. The 33's are only a bit taller then the 285's tho so I wouldnt think there would be much of a problem.

well it depends on which brand tire you go, 285=33 in most tires. the width is what is different, the 285/70r17 is about a 11.5 wide where the 33x12.50 is actually a 12.50. so it is a inch wider. so if you go with the 33x12.50 you will want a 9"-10" wheel.

The title should be changed, as it is misleading. You mean 285/70R17, which is a considerable difference compared to 285/75R17 when talking fitment.

To the subject at hand, the 285/70R17 will actually be taller in most cases than the 33x12.50. Can anyone in the crowd tell me why?

I vote for the 285/70R17 not for it's height, but because of it's width...being skinnier than the 33x12.50. For most drivers, a wide tire will hurt off-road performance because they do not know how to use the extra flotation.

ya I do mean 285/70 17. So why is the 285 taller? From what I found it would be about a 1/2" shorter.

70% of 285 is the side wall height 8"+8"+17"=33" taller tire
a 33" tire is usually never a true 33"s
I'd say go with the 285's because of the width. Also, how they fit depends on the backspacing of the wheels.
I run 305/70 r16 with a 6" suspension lift.
