How are ya'll getting the gear puller to work? The first one I tried slipped off after some serious tightening and bent the bolt. The second one I'm using slips off as well. I can't get the key pushed up far enough before it slips off.

I used a big cheap C-clamp. The flat clamping part on the screw end came off and there was just a round ball like end. That fit perfectly into the dimple in the end of the torsion key. Then just cranked away.
Mine was basically like this one. Just popped off the flat end on the screw.

Oh, and if you use this method. Don't forget to put a lot of grease on the end of the screw because it builds a lot of friction screwing into the end of the key. At first I though I was going to snap the C-clamp because it was so hard to turn. After greasing it, it was easy and smooth.

Well, I tried this and bent one 8" c clamp and one 6" c clamp. I'm not having any luck here.

its starting to seem that removing the keys is a PITA. I was going to pull the LCAs to do the ball joints this weekend, and replace my T bar crossmember isolators, that are shot and reattling my brain...anyway...
any recommendations on what specail tools to have on hand,
methods that proved easier than what Haynes says,
anything is good,
thanks

Mine was a dirt cheap one and it worked just fine.
Btw, did you have the front end on the ground or did you lift it when you were compressing them?
Lifting the front might take some extra weight off the bars and make it easier. I did not have to do this on mine though.

Tons of people have done them and it's pretty easy for the most part. Tools; Gear puller, C-clamp, or go pay $$$ for GMs tool.
Here is a good link about this.
