Default Anybody own a Jk unlimited? Lifts

I'm researching lifts for the Jk unlimited jeeps. There are so many out there. I'm looking at the 3.5" ones.

Who runs what and what do you think of it?

What size tire do you wanna run? IS it going to be a mall crawler or see some trail action?

It will see trails and mud and sand and what ever else my wife can find to take it through. She has wanted a jeep as long as I can remember. Her idea of a Sunday drive is taking the top off and getting as dirty as possible. (talking about the jeep lol). However, it will see road time too. It will take the Tahoe's spot for a while so I can do things I've been wanting to it. It's hard to down the DD when it's needed every day.

You didnt say a tire size but stock height it'll handle 33's and with a 2.5" lift it will fit 35's no problem.
I see guys putting 4" lifts on and running 33's which imo is a waste of center of gravity and $$

Im a fan of Rough Country here lately and they have several options for the jk.

:iagree:

We run 33s on a couple of our stock-height Rubicons and I haven't had any trouble getting around with them anywhere (1 has a cold-air intake, the other is stock). Unless you plan on 35s, there is no reason to make it any more tipsy. If you are planning on 35s, you better be ready to pony up for some gears. Will it be new or used? What trim level?

What I want to do is get the smittybuilt xrc fenders and a 3.5" lift. From what I found with this combow I can run 37's. I have to be honest here. I'm not a jeep fan by any means. But my wife really is. And if it weren't for the new motor they have in the 2012 I prolly would not be getting one. With that said, it will be at least a 2012 rubicon unlimited. Any other models it seems you would have to spend a grip just to get to where the rubicon starts. I don't mean to down on jeeps but the older ones seem to be under powered with weak *** axles. I actually like the way the newer jeeps handle as well. Last time I test drove one in like 02, I almost flipped it. And I have always driven trucks so it surprised the **** out of me.

Even with the power increase it is going to SUCK without gears on 37s, even 35s will suck. I built my dads 06 rubicon unlimited on 33 mtzs and it is ridiculously underpowered even with the 6 speed manual. Granted the new JKs have more power than his TJ but the JKs are also heavier and youre also talking taller tires. Dont get me wrong, its a ton of fun, especially out on the trails but dont expect mpg or power out of a lifted jeep unless you put some deep gears in it or a real motor. I plan on building an iron 5.7 with a radix for my dads to get it going.

I figured gears were a given when doing tire swaps. The rubicon comes with 4.10's but I was thinking 4.56. According to the calculator that would be a pretty good gear with the 6spd. The new 2012's have the 3.6 motor from like the charger and such. It up on power compared to the 3.8. By quite a bit actually. As long as it gets better than the Tahoe ill be happy. That's not hard, I can nearly squeeze 18 on the highway with windows down on flat ground. Which is actually better than it did stock. Lol

Ours are JK Rubicons (both regular and Unlimited models) and you can even feel the 33s vs the factory 32s. You will definitely want to regear with your plans, believe me. I like your plans, but gears will be your friend. Also, you may want to wait for the 2013 Rubicon as early Pentastar applications are having issues and 2012 is the first year for this engine in the Wrangler.
