I think the wife would kill me if I did it right now. Although my raise coming up would cover the difference in payment

When I bought my van the first thing I did was buy a Class V hitch for it from Curt but now I'm wondering if it's the extended one like the one you are talking about. They only have one kind right? This talk of frame bending's got be worried since I plan on towing 12,000-14,000lbs with the hitch eventually. My van is a 2500 which means the frame's a little thicker I believe.

Cody, come install my trailer brake on my van already!!

You will be fine, the trailer in the above pic was well over 10k and I towed it on the stock hitch almost 3000 miles. For that size load you really need to go to a load distributing hitch then you really will be fine.

I have a load distributing hitch is what I'm thinking/hoping. Does Curt sell hitches that aren't? I just bought the only Class V hitch they sold. Wish I took pictures of it, actually....

The load distributing part is actually mounted to the trailer. also, brake controllers are simple. one wire to the "cold" side of the brake light switch under the dash, one to the trailer harness to turn the brakes on, and another to acessory power for the controller itself. It's hard to tell what harness they put on there for you, but Id recommend doing either a 6 pin round or 7 pin rv connector, then you can have brakes and aux power (aux is nice for trickle charging batteries in campers or for a trailer winch while youre towing. my little pop-up camper will also let me run the lights inside off the truck battery if its plugged in.)
heres a load distributing setup... Weight Distribution Kits | Reese SC Weight Distributing Hitch (1,200 lbs) | Drawtite | Reese | Tekonsha | Bulldog | Fulton

That sounds like a lot of work. I just plugged in the little harness under the dash that came with m Tahoe. Then wired it to the controller. Mine was already wired outback for everything else. Including the trickle charge.

I wonder if mine is that simple. Right now I have a 4 pin tow harness that I installed. need to get the 7 pin soon.

There should be a pre wired plug under the bed. All you need is the adapter harness from the store that says "silverado this year to that year 7 pin plug adapter harness". Then under the driver side dash on the floorboard there is a little black box. Remove the center plastic nut from center of it and pop off the cover. Your brake controller harness will plug into that. My tahoe came with the needed harness. It if yours didnt have it in the glove box just go buy one. Should just be a gm brake controller adapter harness. Then match the applicable wire ends to your controller. Install fuse into the under hood fuse box. And boom all done. The brake controller harness to brake controller should be the only wires you have to splice. Everything else should be plug and play.
