Well the EATON lsd seems to be really popular as a replacement for the pos G80 and everyone has given it good reviews. Mine works awesome on the street I can leave two black marks for as long as I want. Well I went to go to my usual fishing hole that you have to cross a sharp washout well needless to say if my truck wasnt 4wd I would have been stuck. The back right tire was up in the air and would just spin so if you do any offroading oyu better go ahead and get a detroit locker instead. Now I realize that Eaton has another diff for all out offroaders and Im sure it works fine I just figured that it would atleast work decently well off road but oh well I guess Ill be upgrading to a detroit when I do the lift in a year or two. Now on street performance you cant beat it, it works great.

A limited slip is not made to function with a tire in the air, you need a locker for that, plain and simple.

Yep, a limit slip will not work in low traction issues, like with 1 tire in the air. The clutches cant overcome the force need to put power to the tire with traction. A Detroit is the only way to go

If you put a higher preload in it (800 lbs), it would be better, but still not ideal.

In off road situations the LSD is not ideal becasue the clutches are constantly slipping to gain traction, they will wear out prematurely.

I realize that I just figured it may work atleast decently I am not really disappointed in it I got it to work onroad anyway. When I lift my truck I was planning on doing a gear swap too so its not that big a deal to go ahead and switch to a detroit. I just wanted to let everyone know for the guys that drive 4wd's that if you want to still retain offroad ability not to get an EATON lsd. It is awesome onroad has great manners and two black marks for as long as I want.

I know eaton makes a E-locker, sounds pretty cool for offroad use.

Yes that is the one that they recommend for offroad use. I dont want that for a street app. Though I knew ahead of time this lsd was not going to be good for offroad I just figured it owuld have some sort of locking capability but it is just like having and open diff. My point was just to let the guys with Z71sor any 4x4 for that matter know that if they need a new posi and they still want the rear to be good for offroad then the EATON is not the one for them thats all.

LSD's can be a PITA. If you know how to set an LSD up you can shim/clutch it tighter and that'll help with controlling traction during tire lift. Otherwise rip it out and go with a cheap/light locker like a Detroit EZ-locker.

I put an Auburn lsd in one of my past Z's. It seemed to work good off road, but it had the cones instead of clutches. It was good on the road too, not sure about brute strength though.
