reminds me of high school shop class:
my explorer's brakes were shot when i bought it, so i tow-strapped mom's excursion behind me, and she followed me to school - using her truck as my brakes. lots of redneck tomfoolery that wouldn't make a 1000mi trip.

Trailer on a trailer with a car on it sounds just fine to me. I see tons and tons of hot shot truck drivers hauling 3-4 trailers on a trailer all the time around here. If everything is strapped down correctly, I don't see the problem.

Trailer on trailer =/= car on trailer on trailer

Good luck. I hope this works out.

I wish people didn't make posts that just look for positive reinforcement.

but it is effectively the same as "trailer on trailer on trailer" (as pictured above)... the big difference being that without putting both the car and 16ft on blocks, their loaded weights will have more bounce as it travels through three sets of springs. that can be mitigated some by cinching down their chains to compress much of the travel out of them.

i fully acknowledge that it ain't the easiest or most-conventional way to get everything from A to B... i just wanted to ensure there weren't any ticketable hurdles preventing it from being an option.

I don't have the answer for this but depending on which states you travel through, I understand some of them are real SOB's about any overhang from the trailer deck. Something to consider. Sorry for the vague semi-info but the memory is real fuzzy on that one.

I suppose another way to look at it, will it be worth it for the cost of 2-5 tickets and the hassle from those stops, or even worse, demanding that you change your load in some way mid journey to be able to continue?

that's why i'm checking my bases now - to make sure there ain't nothing to cite about it.
most states only stop commercial trucks anyway... but there are some who do things like check everybody over 10k GCW.
