Default Question about lifting

For you guys that lifted your trucks, what was your loss in mpg when you lifted and put bigger tires on? I know therre is a difference depending on what size tire you go with. I have a 2wd extended cab right now that gets an average of 17.5-18 mpg. I was thinking of doing a 7"-9" lift and going with some 35's or maybe 36's. How much is the gas milage going to suffer? I don't wanna sound like a cry baby whining about gas milage but I drive 350 -400 miles a week and just wanna know what i'm getting myself into here with gas prices staying around $3.00 a gallon! Thanks!

I have a 2000 silverado 4wd 5.3l and i get like 15mpg with 36" tires and 4.56 gears. So if you have stock gears then it should be a little better than that. Hope this help. I got some 36" super swampers to go with that truck and a 3" body lift. You will need a at least a 7" lift to fit them. I have a 6" suspension and a 3" body and its pefect. Im just going for big horsepower now so im looking to down size a little. Pm me if you have any questions.

my gas milage went into the dirt. i also noticed a slight dip in power. i re-geared it and the milage and power came back.

My 02 has the factory 3.73s and I used to get 19-20 stock w/ 20's. I added the lift and 325-60-20 Terra Grapples and left the stock gearing, added a Superchips and I tickle 16 mpg around town or on the interstate, but when I have my 19.5" boat in tow, it drops down to 13-14 and that's with the a/c crankin' and pulling some steep hill to the lake I frequent.

I thought as you increased the tire size putting in steeper gears in helped maintain fuel economy and if you left stock gears with huge tires the MPG went to *****... at least thats how it was on my buddies 98 z71.. had 38" tires on there with stock gears (3.73 if i remember) then he swapped to 4.56 and gas mileage went back closer to normal... or so he claimed...

I went from stock 245 60 r16's to 265 75 r16 and chamber series teflon coated rims on my 01 4.8L with no lift and my mileage went from 14/18 mileage to 10/16. Cat back exhaust, cold air intake, hotter plugs. a super chip programer and a hi/po mas air flow sensor and it went to up to 16/22 city/highway and the truck drives like a damn beast now.
