Default Tire Questions, Please Read.

Ok soon im ordering a set of 20s for my tahoe, ive decided on the rims, now i gotta figure out what tires to run. i like the fact that my vehicle is quiet on the road with street tires but id kinda like some tires that are a little tougher. im not gonna really do any off-roading but if we ever got ice or i WANTED to drive through somewhere it would be a plus. i dont want to have that loud roar that off-road tires create on the street. i need a quiet tire with good rain traction and good wear (these are too high to buy every year lol) i think i found a set of tires that are somewhat middle of the road.

http://www.discounttiredirect.com/di...99&rd=20&ar=50

will these be good tires on the street and still remaining quiet? what about the wear on the street? these have a little more agressive shoulder on them than a regular street tire, would 285/50/20 be fine on the tahoe? its 4wd and stock height. thanks for the help!!

Never known anyone to use these. Reviews look good and their not expensive. So give them a try.

I've never seen anybody run those tires, but the Coopers are supposed to be decent. I run a 305/50/20 on my Silverado, Terra Grapplers though. Love the tires

i had everyone tell me that 305s are likely to give rubbing issues thats why i was looking at 285s. would these tires be quiet on the street or do that loud roaring sound?

The Nitto Terra Grapplers are quieter than the Zeon LTZ's. My manager just changed the Zeon LTZ's out on his 07 Ram in the same size actually you're thinking of, to the Terra Grapplers. The Terra Grapplers are a little more, but they will be quieter, last a lot longer and from what I've found are a lot easier to balance and KEEP BALANCED. I have Terra Grapplers on 6 trucks now, 5 being my friends/family and 1 being my own personal truck. The tires range from 265/75R16's (GMC Jimmy, 1500 Silverado, F-150) to 325/70R17's (GMC Sonoma) to 285/65R18's (F-150 FX4) and 305/50R20's (1500 Sierra). So far the F-150 with the 265/75R16's have over 55k miles on the tires and there is still over 10/32ths tread left. Very quiet tires, awesome in the rain and snow, alright in the sloppy mud and really good looks.

If you wanted something towards the middle of the pack between the low cost of the LTZ's and the Terra Grapplers, the Pirelli Scorpion STR's are a good highway tire with enough traction to get you out of most civil 4x4-required spots. I'm not saying they'll get you in and out of a mud hole, but they're quiet, cheapER, and tend to last over 50k miles on average.

damn inchup, leave it to you to give me a nice info packed response lol. i just dont want to spend 1,000 on the terras. but dont really want to spend the 700 on the coopers lol. ive never seen the pirellis before. i found the coopers and terras on discounttiredirect.com, thats where i always order tires because its the cheapest ive found and free shipping. im also still wondering if 305/50/20s will work. half the people say they rub half say they dont lol.

I get paid to answer your questions. ...kinda. I work for Discount Tire and have for the past 3 years, but been in the tire business for 6.

My end note: These tires you're considering are expensive. All 20's are. Buy the good ones now so you don't have to pay up the *** in 30k miles when tire prices hike up 10-15%. The Nitto's will last over 50k miles I promise you that much, as long as you keep a good eye on the air pressure and practice a consistent interval for tire rotations/rebalances. Buy the Nitto's in the 285/50R20 and if you don't like them....well if you were closer I'd buy them from you but you get the idea. Plus if you hadn't already noticed, the 285/50R20's are P rated 'extra load' 6-ply tires...so you will end up with a nice smooth ride. 40psi in the front and 35psi in the rear will do ya just fine under normal road conditions, unloaded.
