Those are a good looking wheel, they're 8.5" with 5.5" backspacing, so you'd definitely be able to fit a 305/50 on them with little to no rubbing, especially if you trimmed the plastic If you can wait awhile, I think I'll be home at the end of next week and will be able to get some more detailed pictures of my combo if there is anything you'd like to see in particular.

Mmmm... Trenches with 305s Still i didnt think 305 would fit properly on a 8.5" rim. I thought 275-285 max on a 8.5" If you just really want to take pics of the clearance points thats fine but really its not that big of a deal. thanks alot tho!!

I don't know why the 305/50 ranges from 8.5-11, where the 305/55 is 9-10" and it is wider. Must be something with the speed rating?

anything 305/xx/xx is gonna be the same width, the second number is a relation between the tread width and the sidewall height. Just fyi

Thinner sidewalls require wider rims. That's why a 325/70R17 on my 9" wheels are ok where 325/30R20's on Corvette's require 20x11" or 20x12" wide wheels. It's to ensure that the most tread is planted.

At least that's what I think 00Silverado was hinting at, and caused the confusion for 20032wdsilverado. If not, then 20032wdsilverado is correct in saying 305 anything will be the same section width where the ratio (in this case 50) and rim diameter will determine sidewall height and total diameter. Take note however that a 305/50R20 mounted on an 8.5" wide wheel will be narrower than a 305/50R20 mounted on an 11" wheel. Wide rims stretch the tire beads out, causing more tread to come in contact with the road.

No ****, look at Nitto's tire sizing chart, you'll see that according to the manufacturer the 305/50 is 12.2 inches wide and the 305/55 is 12.6 inches wide I've had 3 sets of wheels and tires on my truck, I think I know what works and doesn't. That being said, I think I can grasp something as elementary as reading a metric tire size.

I was just wondering why Nitto recommends such a wide variance for the 305/50, 8.5-11" width wheel, where the wider 305/55 is recommended a 9-10" wide wheel. A 305/50 on an 11" wide wheel would look terrible IMO

The 305/55R20 is an LT "E" rated tire so it can't be stretched over a wide rim variance like the 305/50R20 is. The LT305/55 will have really stiff sidewalls...so stiff that you'll need a kidney replacement from all the jarring around the truck will do.

i definately dont need the truck to ride bad. i didnt think 285 vs. 305 would make any ride difference in the exact same tire. hell half the people i been talking to are telling me i should just go street tires on it instead of the all-terrain style (terras). i kinda like how it makes the truck look "tougher" and on the rare occasion i would ever use 4wd it would help a little but the street tires sure are cheaper lol

The Pirelli Scorpion STR's are still on the table. Discount tire has them for $188/tire in a 305/50R20. I just mounted a set of these this morning on a 1500 Sierra 4.8L 5 speed. Not a bad looking setup but I wasn't a fan of the rims he went with. The kick *** balance on 3 of the 4 tires made up for the wobble in the rims. Pirelli anything usually balances out extremely well, second only to Michelin or a select few BFGoodrich sport tires. The Pirelli STR's will outlast the Nitto Terra Grapplers at the cost of off-road traction and looks. If the Nitto's were too expensive for my budget, then my favorite Michelin tires would also be too expensive, so I think I'd go with the Pirelli's as an "economical" decision.
