i have made a trip down to alabama and have driven through tennesse with my truck, but had a 5.3L at the time. I was towing a 6x12 enclosed trailer with three dirt bikes and all our gear. it towed that setup very easily. it will be a bit more of a struggle with twice the weight back there. I am travelling with a bunch of buddies with well equipped tools and tow pigs, so if my truck fails i have other means to make it there.

hey guys i just got back from tennessee this weekend and i was very surprised at how well my sierra did pulling my enclosed trailer through the mountains. It didnt have the torque of a diesel going up the hills, but keeping it in third at around 55mph was the perfect speed for it. I averaged between 8-12 mpg the whole trip, which i thought was pretty damn good considering I was pulling close to 6500lbs. I ended up putting the airlift air bag kit, along with the trucool 40k trans cooler. Tranny never really felt that bad, and the airlift kit @60psi had the truck sitting level the whole time. I think i surprised alot of diesel guys when they saw me pulling that big of a trailer. lol

If you do much towing with that truck you may consider a 4L80 upgrade, I destroyed 6 60E trannys towing a car hauler or our traveler trailer which weighs a little over 7000lbs.

I guess you didnt travel Mont eagle, they call it a hill but its a mountain.

I pulled an 18' trailer with a #3700 car on it up that hill wth my 04 and thought for sure I would have lost an engine, trans, or rear end before cresting the grade.

How does that cam do at 55 to 65 mph? Does the transmission down shift on small hills or will it stay in OD? I am trying to decide on a cam and heads. Are your heads plained at all or is your CR LQ9 stock?
Thanks for any info, Jeremy.
