Default towing with high stall conv?

whats up everyone, had a quick question about towing with my stall/trans setup. ive seen that some of our members here tow with the circle d TC's...i know circle d sets theirs up to be somewhat tighter of a converter until its flashed or theirs load. ive got a custom 10" torque conveter that was made by torque converter technologies, on my 35s and even with 488s it flashes at about 3500 and is a VERY loose converter, the trans is a fully built 4l60e and ive also got a 32k gvw trans cooler from tci. i was wondering if id be able to tow my car to and from the track without messing anything up? the local u haul has a lightweight full aluminum car trailer which i cant imagine weighing that much, and my nova weights in at 3200lbs. do you think id be able to tow my car to/from the track? or not even attempt to? if anyone could give me some advice itd be much appreciated!

thanks

tj

If you do take it easy. Keep an eye on the trans temps if you can. Home depot rents trucks for about 20 a day I believe. Just a thought

If you can get up to speed and go ahead and get the converter locked up you will be fine.. if its slipping the whole time then your gonna have fun!!

i figured i would have to limp the hell out of it, luckily with the 488s my converter locks into od at about 35mph, as for the trans temps ill have to do it on a cool day, since its been around 90 my tranny temps have been anywhere from 150-175 babying it even with the big cooler as for the 20 dollar rental, i think that may be my best bet lol. i just dropped a fat wad of cash when the trans blew about 2 months ago and just dropped 400 today on a custom driveshaft, if anything else breaks im completely screwed im down to pennys now lol

yea, a $20 rental is way better than a few G's for a trans lol

The $20 is for the first 90 min. Then it is more every hour or something.

I would try it once and see how it goes. If your cooler is big enough it should keep the trans at the same 150-175. If it gets warmer with the trailer then look into a fan or don't tow it any more.

Did you use sythetic trans fluid? Is the cooler mounted up front in place of the stock one?

damn...there goes that plan then lol, i mean worst comes to worst i can pay fuel/mileage cost for my old mans work truck but i figured it try it with my truck. i guess its worth the shot once, i just gotta throw the reciever back on the truck which is no big deal, trans temps in this 90 degree weather have been right around 150-175 so if i do tow ill just monitor it, if it gets hotter just like ya said throw a fan on it or get a bigger cooler if theres one out their lol. as for fluid i run the stock dex III that it calls for, guy that fully built my trans said run that change it every 20k along with the filter, but ive been wanting to put synthetic in it. also my truck did not have a cooler stock, but it is in the middle of my radiator in between my two 12in puller Efans
