In the Silvy SS's I don't think there is much if any difference between AWD and 2wd 1/4 mile times wise.

My reason for getting the AWD is because in the winter we do get snow so I wanted something I could drive in any weather condition. I've had a couple 2wd pickups(RCSB's) in the past and they were no good in the snow at all, hell my Camaro was better then they were.

When I get a new truck it will not be AWD but, I will still get 4wd..best of both worlds IMHO. The SS was pretty much the perfect combination of items I wanted on a truck AWD, ECSB, 6.0L, 1500 series. One reason I bought it instead of a 4wd actually.

1BadAction - If you spin all 4 wheels in 4wd you will spin them with AWD also. AWD is nice but, it will spin if you get all 4 on something like wet grass, gravel, ice, snow, etc.

yea exactly, if a 4wd spins the tires in that situation, i wouldnt have moved it with a 2wd, and that was just on wet grass, not a sand or slimey boat ramp

When I bought my truck I drove an awd ss and a VHO which is the same as a 2wd ss in the same day. The VHO felt alot faster. The problem is when you start laying down alot of power traction goes out the window on the 2wd. I have gone to the track with BigTex, and it is frustrating to watch him jump out on me in the first half of the track. Once I got rolling and into the power band he stopped pulling me and it was even from there, but he was about a full second faster than me. I know I could throw on a set of slicks and fix the problem, but you arent going to drive around town all the time on slicks. With the awd the traction is there all the time.

Tranny's are going to be an issue wether it is 2wd or awd. We all know that. My 60 with an hd2 and servos only lasted a month after getting my smaller pully and tune, and that was without traction.

As for being able to do a burnout its lots of fun, but it gets real expensive when you are roasting off a set of tires that cost $250.00 each. Believe me I can vouch for that. I have put three sets of tires on my truck in a year and a half.

My .02 is it depends on what you want to do with your truck and how far you are going to go in moding it. If I had it to do over again I would have either bought an AWD SS or a 4wd.
