They are tailored different needs the PTB3600 has a larger body and stronger internals ( thicker steel parts stronger stator ) it also has a larger clutch and thicker clutch surface to allow for towing.
It was designed for power adder use and or a higher weight truck

i have a ptb3600 in my wifes truck and barly any other mods (50 shot nitrous) and run 11s full weight
