The supercar of radio-controlled racers can be yours for $1,100 - Yahoo! Autos
That's right its a radio controlled car!
I don't think that the price is too bad considering that it's that fast.

Nice car, traxxas always try's to put out fast RTR vehicles.
I hope some parents don't get that for their kids, the rc car would be destroyed the first day lol.
You could probably put together a RC car yourself for about half the price though and have the same performance. Buy a kit car and get everything separate. Get a nice brushless motor, and good ESC with a nice Lipo battery and you will hit 100+mph easy in a light road rc car. You just wouldn't get all the fancy radio features of the Traxxas link at half the price.

Make your own 1/8th or 1/10th version for us and report back lol. I think someone should do it.
You can get a OFNA Ultra GTP-2e 1/8th Electric kit for around $200 as a rolling chassis.
It would be a good affordable kit to build off of and it would hold up as it is not belt driven.
Tacon makes affordable motors that hold up well. You can get a 1/8th scale brushless tacon motor with 4poles for around $55-$60. The tacons are pretty much an exact copy of the Leopard motors but less money.
You can get Sky Lipo 5000mAh 22.2V 30C 6S battery pack for around $69 and they are high quality batteries yet affordable.
You need a good ESC to handle all the power. 160-200amp would work, but I would get the biggest amp rating you can afford as it will run cooler and last longer if you are not running the esc to its full capability. Also room to grow if you go quite a bit bigger on the amp rating. The price can range from about $70 for the cheap 150-160amp to pretty expensive for the bigger amp units. I would spend the money on a good one IMO. I believe the minimum is a 160amp for lipo 6S batteries anyway for most manufacturers.
A radio if you don't already have one can be bought for under $50..
Receiver can be had for cheap and so is a servo if you don't have those either.. $50 can buy both.
Might need to solder a few connections and or change some connectors.
That's about it lol.
If you didn't worry too much about reaching insane speeds you could run a lower voltage lipo battery.
Obviously changing gearing would probably be needed.
You can run one 6S lipo or two 3S lipo battery packs, the one 6S is more convenient.
I know its not related but the sky lipo 6S battery I listed along with a Tacon 4047 2150kv motor in a boat such as the traxxas spartan is capable of 60-65MPH on water. No telling how fast that combo would go on a 1/8th or 1/10th on road car with proper gearing. They have several other motor models as well.
