Default 2008 Springfield XD's

Ok I'm planning on buying an XD .40 subcompact and I want to get my ccl. I see the 2008 models will now include a thumb safety. So my question is, would it be worth it to wait for the 2008 models to come out or just go ahead and get one now? I am hoping to find a good deal on one with night sights also.

I really need to find some good places locally to shop for guns. I went to the Bass pro shop and they have crap for a selection and the jerks behind the counter didn't seem to want to help me. I wish we had a Cabela's here they have 10 time the selection of everything over Bass pro. The gun section in the Cabela's in Kansas City is huge with both new and used guns! Anyway enough of my rambling. Just looking for some opinions.

Just get it over with and buy a Springfield 1911 GI

This is mine: Doesn't this gun just scream "sex"?

If this is your first handgun purchase, I recommend getting something that has some nostalgia towards it along with history. You may find yourself getting bored with modern "plastic" guns I call them as they look like toys. My next rifle is either going to be a M1A (civilian model M14) or a M1 Garand. That .45 cal 1911 will put a smile on your face everytime and destroy any target you hit. People have been known to take down grizzly bears with 1911's when caught offguard (not hunting). Moses Browning would be proud

I've fired a springfield 1911 and its a nail driver. Definately on the short list for my next firearm.

What do you mean by "nail driver"? If you're talking about the crude mechanical feel of the recoil, gotta love it

it depends on how comfortable you are with carrying a pistol concealed that only has a trigger safety and grip safety. i personally am going to get a 08 model of the xd-45 compact (with thumb safety)for CCW

the thumb safety is optional, you can get it with or without a thumbsafety.

XD's are great guns, but the 1911 is tried and true.

I am buying this gun to be a carry weapon. I really like the 1911's, but I think they are a little big for a carry gun. I don't really have a problem not having the safety, but on the other hand it would be a nice addition to have. I think there is a gun show this weekend so I may go look and see what is there and also check some local places. If I don't find what I want I may just wait until the 2008's come out.

While th 1911's are tried and true I would also say the XD's are almost just as tried and true even for the short time they have been available. I have yet to see one report of a misfire or other problem with and XD.
