I was at the range with a guy shooting one of Barret's .50bmg's with the 45* brake and it really didn't have all that much recoil but don't stand to the side of one.

My shooting buddy has a .300win mag and he cought me with my ear muff up a little too high, gawd damn!! That was the loudest, most sharp sound I've ever heard. I keep the muff on tight when he brings that one out.

I alway wondered about soldiers and how they deal with muzzel blasts from the big howitzers?

Yes I would want it in that lightweight model. It probably wouldn't be any worse than my .300 Ultra. The people I have talked to that have shot Barretts say they kick about like a 30-06. I think a Barrett runs about 25-30lbs. Shouldn't be too much worse. Besides, I would take that beast hunting. Would love to shoot an Elk at about 2000 yards with one.

I thought the Barrett was heavier than that, guess the lightweight model wouldn't be too different. For shooting that far wouldn't a solid rest and a little heavier weight contribute to better accuracy? I mean at those distances every little advantage would help. It's also not the type of gun I'd be lugging around hunting with, more like pulling my truck up to the edge of a range, unloading, setting up and waiting for something to wander out in front of me....no matter how far out. I'd like to shoot one one day just to see what it's like but, no reason around here to use one. .300 Ultra mag(He's got one of those too) drops a deer like a ROCK pretty much as far as you can shoot on the deer lease.

I prefer shooting ammo like below though.

WHAT CAT!!!!

Just make sure you only shoot once so they can't pinpoint where the shot came from.

i'll be honest i bought mine used about 6 months ago, it's the most fun thing in the world to shoot, but it draws more attention than a an open header BBC. the minute you crack off the first round you have 10-15 people that wan't to shoot it. for $3-$5 a round they can kiss my ***
