Default 54.5 MPG by 2025?

New fuel standards=Obama punishing drivers

Spare the political bashing (seriously), I am just digging at creating conversation of if ya think it's obtainable without breaking the consumers bank account? For us, IMHO what this means most to our community, less ability if any to modify the ecm.

All is not lost. Got this from ABC news:

In the arcane world of government regulations, the rules don't mean that each new car or truck will get 54.5 mpg. The average vehicle will get closer to 40 mpg in real-world driving. Automakers will be able to sell pickup trucks and less-efficient vehicles as long as that's offset somewhat by smaller vehicles that already can get upward of 40 mpg.

Automakers can reduce the mileage they're required to get with credits for selling natural gas and electric vehicles, changing air conditioning fluid to one that pollutes less, and adding stop-start circuits that temporarily shut off the engine at stop lights.

I would love a BMW 335d, 0-60 in under 6, 13 sec 1/4 mile (with some tweaking) and still get 40mpg

But I think the German repair bills would quickly negate the fuel savings

If they are able to get those mpg's I'm sure gas price would go up to offsit the use of less gas being used

As would state taxes to pay for roads, and the list continues.
