I had mine looked at today too since I felt it wasn't cooling enough. I keep the stat on 74 all the time and when I get home in the evenings it's creeping up to 82-85 in the house with 105-110 ambient temps. The unit runs from about 10-11am until 9-10pm non-stop. Had a good friend of mine who owns a local service company come by and take a look and he says the coil is clean and it's charged correctly and everythings in good working order despite it's age (unit is probably 20+yrs old) it was just sized too small for the house and is probably a full ton too small. Were looking to add on to the house in the next couple years so something going to have to be done about the unit asap...
He quoted me a humidity control system that's plenty big enough for the house now and our future plans...... To the tune of $8500.... And that's getting the unit for his cost and a pretty large discount on the labor as well..... I've been sick to my stomach all day

Yep my parents just installed a new 6 tin dual stage unit a few month ago it ran them 10k+. Depending on the house size i would look into a dual stage unit. It is like 2 compressora in 1. Depending on the load determines which stage(s) run. Pretty cool
