I did 3 yrs of it in the Marines. I did it for two weeks civilian side (way different) and really didn't like it. Like said it's all where you live money wise.
Sheet metal is a good field to get into. If I wasn't into my civil service career I'd definitely look into it. They are always hard up for sheet metal guys on bases around the US.

Been in the field for 35 yrs. now. I am operating the third business of my career for the past 7 yrs out of Arlington, Texas. It is a great field but can be VERY SEASONAL. I would suggest learning plumbing as well if you want to be rich someday. My company has had to diversify to be successful in such difficult ecomomic times...I started this company the year of 9-11. I'll be happy to advise, but REAL busy now. Good choice!

I currently do HVAC and love it. but don't get me wrong there are those days that just suck. Ive only been doing for 3 1/2 years now and started at 9 dollars a hour and not knowing crap! Then the want to go further in the business I worked my way to my own crew this past winter making 14 an hour. this is all residential hvac with little commercial and no schooling.

just started a new job this past Monday with more possibilities with starting gross of 36k a year, a company vehicle, gas card, phone, OT, benefits, and paid vac- commercial and industrial HVAC now, but still have no licence

its a good field to get into but it also based on how far you are willing to go
