It's funny how things have progressed over the past year or more. 3 years ago people would have said not to go bigger than a 224/224 on a 5.3L. Now people run the Patriot 228/228 without thinking twice. As time progresses people take more and more chances with their motors, with proper tuning and the right setup you can run a big duration cam and still have it maintain normal street manners. Also the cam grinder seem to be coming out with better lobes that have a greater intake/exhaust duration without sacrificing quite as much as a cam with similar specs, but with different lobes.

For one, Patrick custom specs the cam to your individual setup and needs. If you read, you'll see that they state it's stupid to use big cams if you aren't running the rpm's where that cam will produce it's advantage over a smaller cam. TXSilverado is running up to 7k rpm's which will take advantage of the bigger cam. As well, cam lobes have advanced since Patrick posted that.

Try reading what I posted more carefully. TXsilverado is spinning up to 7k, so he can take advantage of the bigger cam. That's why pat spec'd it IMO. The guy had a 226/226 cam or so and wanted an improvement at the track between 5500-7000 rpm's...makes perfect sense.

What(Gmctrk) is trying to be said here I think... If a person just goes out to but a huge donkey dick cam to slap in with unmatched heads, verter, ect it is more then likley gona run like dick.. If a huge cam is specd correctly for a set up, it will run like it is supposed to run.. To run a big dur cam you better be ready to spin the **** out of the motor, have a set of heads that can keep up with it.. And there is like a 2 page ??? list to answer for PAT G to spec a cam, ask me how I know
