Losing weight is a very simple concept, however, the problem lies in the motivation to do so. A few general rules can apply to most people:

1.) Never drink your calories. Ever.
2.) If you have to microwave it, you probably shouldn't be eating it.

Those two rules are general and there are exceptions to both but they lay a good foundation. Try to eat around 5-6 meals/snacks throughout the day. Try to eat high protein, high fat (unsaturated), and low carbs. Grilled chicken breasts should be your friend.

Thanks for all the info. Motivation is key. As one buddy said, "You just got to get mad about it". My problem has been 3-5 days of eating right then 3-5 days of blowing it. A constant cycle and 5-7 lb swing. If I can get off the weight, I think I can keep it off.
Food is a social time for me and the wife. Sometimes eating together is the only time we get to spend together. That is what makes it harder. Getting out of that habbit of going out to dinner for a big meal constantly.
Oh, and did I mention beer?

I'd expect nothing different out of you.

Weighed in Monday at 232. That's 15 lbs in the first week!

I cant loose weight for ****. Weighed in at around 265 in early january. Havent eaten late (past 7), gotten at least 7 hours sleep a night, no dark soft drinks mainly gatorade or sprite (diet sprite), nothing greasy, low fat everything else. I do about 3-4 hours of cardio a week with my heat rate around 180 for the whole workout (usually a solid hour), do quick lifting with bench/squats/deadlift, some wrestling practice for about an hour in there after cardio.

Weighed yesterday, 264

heres some stats out of my biochem notes... Just to note the power packed in fat.

One pound of adipose tissue equals ~ 3500 Cal.* That's 12.5 Snickers or approximately 2 days worth of BMR.* In other words if one fasted for 2 days, they would lose 1 lb.
bmr, basal metabolic rate. The minimal energy needed to sustain your body

Its easy to lose several pounds in the first week.* This is because glycogen storages are used up in the muscles.* a pound of carbohydrate is about ~1500 Cal.

I agree. That **** is way over my head though. I hope to keep up 2-3 lbs a week from here on out.

My weight seems to fluctuate. One day I'm at 220.5 and a few days later I'm 226 WTF?

I workout 6 days a week, 30 minute cardio every day, alternating weight lifting every other day. I took one of those fitness tests, you know on the stationary bike measures your heart rate under a load (like a dyno) and I got a -26...poor
