the cars being traded in arent the horribly polluting cars the govt wants to get off the road, they are the 2nd and 3rd cars of people who want to get something new. How far does 4k go towards a brand new car since the program can only be used with new cars, not used... not very far.

And it isn't very difficult to talk down $3500+ on a newer vehicle in the first place, esp in these times. Dealers really don't have any special "sales", they always have a limit they won't go under on any vehicle on the lot. I talked the dealer down 4 grand IIRC on mine 3 years ago and they included tax in the final price. If the truck was eligible for this program I would have got close to the same deal. Sure it will help boost sales but damn, time controls the economy and it's corrections...the market/economy is ALWAYS correcting itself to find equilibrium. The govt isn't very efficient at doing much of anything except spending, lol.

If they are going to do that bullshit they should just find needy people who can afford to drive the things and give it to them.
Older folks need rides to the hospital. Hurricane victims still need transportation. Single moms. the list goes on.

Default This program is a type of socialism...

and then what is next.

Funny thing is...this program really hurts the poor folks. You know...the folks that have lots of kids and drive around in an old Explorer, Blazer, Trailblazer..Durango...etc to and from work each day.

These folks that CAN'T afford a new car...can't take advantage of being able to trade in a truck only worth $1,200 for a tax credit value of $4,500 - because they simply can't afford a new car anyway.

So...we take thousands of them off the road and destroy the used parts. This drives up the price of the used parts and makes it even harder for less fortunate folks to afford to keep their vehicles running - and dries up the market to where aftermarket folks don't put the time/money/resources into making aftermarket parts for a dead market.

In the end - you spend a bunch of my tax money to help somebody afford to buy a new car...to make Al Gore and Obama look good - while killing the lilttle guy - drying up the market for used parts...and creating an artificial early death for this era of vehicles.

What a gimick program. I'm jaded because I love the OBS trucks and Auroras, but there's got to be a better way. Make vehicle inspections mandatory in every state and privatize the inspection centers. Here in SC there are no vehicle inspections or emmision standards. Most people don't work on their own cars and will buy or lease new to avoid repairs and bringing up a car to snuff. This program is about as green as a styrofoam cup! At least get something from these cars.

The sheer stupidity of this program outrages me to no end. Just read today that c1500 and f-150 pickups make up a large percentage of the vehicles that have been turned in for disposal. This is nothing more than a bunch of people getting caught up in a gimmick and settling for tiny battery cars and such even though they have utilized the hauling capabilites of suvs and trucks on a regular basis. Now they are s.o.l. I won't be long and everyone will be driving the same vehicle of the same color going down the road in mindless droves. I hope it doesn't get to a point where our passion for horsepower begins to be compromised.
