i had a loaded 98 civic. the paint faded, the windows quit working, the trunk latch quit working, the front bumper was floppy and the headlights were so faded that you couldnt see the road. it got awesome MPG so i loved the damn thing. even though it was loaded, i still had hubcaps on steel wheels.
got a 99 avalon with more miles, and not a single problem with it. i replaced 1 battery and 1 injector ($15). it doesnt get as good of gas mileage as the civic but i also have a 6 cylinder that can merge into traffic without getting you run over. paid 2,500 for the civic, and paid 2,500 for the avalon(got a great deal on the avalon at the time). I do miss the mileage that the honda got me, but the toyota is a better car.
anyone seen the new kia line up? kia has come a LONG way in the last few years! can't beat the 5 year 100k mile warranty either. they even have a sports car now.

The new optima is really nice, I'm afraid the resale value will be **** though. In a year I'll be in a position to make a move and I'll see what's out then. Wish GM would come out with something to compete with those type of cars. The new Fords are freakin nice too.

i've always hated the GM/ford/dodge econo car line up. complete pieces of garbage. ive been through the chevy malibu and the olds alero. JUNK! the japs have the econo market under wrap. the big 3 just can't seem to compete with the toyota/honda/nissan/acura/infinity/whoever else...even kia is starting to compete with the big 3 and they were just a blip on the radar 5 years ago.

If I were buying now it would probably be a year old kia optima due to the warranty and features. My wife loves the civic and while it is a nice fun little car I just don't like it. The seats kill my back on any drive over 30-45 minutes and its a manual. I can drive manuals fine but getting stuck in traffic blows with my titanium plated left ankle. If GM would step up I'd buy a malibu sized car but they're behind in every category for those type cars.

Theres just nothing out there worth spending the money on right now for me. Id kinda like to get her a smallish SUV like an escape, terrain or something like that. Probably just get both vehicles paid off and take my truck everywhere when Im driving. Might as well get my money's worth out of my driveway ornament.
I think within the next couple years there will be a lot of changes in the various manufacturers lineups so Ill see how I feel then. I really like the new fords, hopefully GM is taking notes and comes out with stuff to compete with them.
