My friend drove me around in his 4.8 '06 ccsb 4x4 after he had some mufflers I sold him installed. I think it has 33's and probably 3.42 gears.. it sounded alright, but I had to ask him if he was really at full throttle thing needed some 5.38 gears to make that motor acceptable

Yeah if I could I would go back yank the 4.8 and drop a 6.0 in before I started with the bolt ons and cam.

Now at least when I get to it the 6.0 will only need a bigger cam.

Not to add that 3500 van had a long first gear with that 4l80 lol.

He sent me a pic today towing his wrx on a u haul trailer. Dealership took his car on trade sight unseen lol. Anyways I'm curious to see how a 6000 pound load did behind it

My truck has a 4.8 but its a RCSS, so it's not bad. I've towed 5K lbs behind it and it was alright. It's definitely not that fast, but it's fun.

When I was running 3.42s and 33" tires, I still spanked a NNBS 5.3 ext cab silverado with an edge programmer. Mine runs damn good so I have trouble understanding when people say how slow the 4.8s are. As far as sounding different with exhaust, they dont sound any different than the 5.3s. Me and a buddy had straight pipes put on the same day at the same place, mine being 4.8 his 5.3. They sounded almost identical, mine was actually a tad louder. I can only speak for my 4.8, but mid 14s with just a tune, intake, and full exhaust with stock trans, stall, and an open diff 3.42 rear is pretty dang good to me(on 26" street tires). On 20s it went 15.1 at full street weight. Thats not too bad.

My '05 rc/lb 5.3 is anything but fast. Headers, intake tube, and a black bear 89 tune is all it has. The torque difference is an issue on a daily driver/crap hauler. I've driven/ridden in a nnbs 3.73 geared 4.8 rc/lb, basically optioned like mine. Stock for stock, the torque difference is big.
I didn't say 4.8s sounded different. I said the cc/sb of my friends sounded good. I had the mufflers behind a sbc
despite the 5.3 having a little more grunt than a 4.8, mine still needs a 6.0 and a tvs1900

just sold my 99 rcsb 5.3 with 139k miles
bought a 2001 rcsb 4.8 with 24k miles
both 3.42

I'm not missing the 5.3 althought it did burn em outta the hole a little harder

kinda on the fence here about stock with magnacharger
or heads cam springs gears either way the 4.8 is going shine RCSB here can't imagine driving a 4x4 ex cab

nothing wrong with mouse motors big valve big cam
302 's ruled when I was a kid

when old guys ask what motor I lie and say its a 283

If Chevrolet would have put a bigger stall behind them from the factory, I dont think it would be as bad. Even tho mine being a LT,Tune,373 rcsb truck its still soo depressing from a launch.
