Are there any zinc additives out there that can be added and actually add protection ? Or does zinc need to be " mixed" into the oil by the manufacturer for it to be effective ?

Edit *** this is a good read

^stp makes a zinc additive that I used to run with a typical 5w30 synthetic.

My problem with the oil theory is, why is this only now happening and on stock motors too? Double springs and fast ramp rates have been around for some time and the factory cams may be produced on the same cam blanks as Comps for all I know. A super high quality oil may help, but damn I hate the idea of not being able to buy oil at any parts house of my choice. I also worry lifters could be the cause. When GM notified dealers about the problem it was the lifters that got new part numbers.

not trying to make anyone flip out, but have you pulled your cam to see what it's current condition is?

Nah not yet but the truck only had a couple hundred miles on it since the cam swap. I was hoping i had caught it before anything happened. What do you think?
