so what do you notice when this happens? Reduction in power, flakes in the oil? Im running Valvoline Vr-1 which is supposed to have a lot of zinc to help fight wear like this, but it still has me worried.

I asked a performance tech who I work with about the VR-1, and he said that it's a very good product. Matter of fact he had just purchased a six pack for $45. I mentioned that was a little salty for my wallet, and he then recommended an additive called TX-7 (http://www.polydyn.com/engine_treatment_information.htm). This can be added with an oil change.

I have access to my warranty information through GM. I found that I had all 16 lifters replaced in 2004 @ 31k miles, which was 2 yrs after I purchased the vehicle in Oct. 2002.

When i pulled the comp cam (212/218 low lift) with 40k miles on it, it looked brand new. This is with LS7 lifters and yellow LS6 springs. This was 10k miles ago. I plan on a cam swap in the next few months and will report back with my findings. FWIW i also run rotella t oil.
